Hogar del bafleo de media noche
Home of the midnight bafleo. The noun "bafleo" and the verb "baflear" come from the non-existing Latin root "bafle" which, in Colombian Spanish, means "speaker". A bit of history: This blog started as part of the 30 Songs, 30 Days project (In English for the Spanish impaired). The initial statement said the following: "Radhika and Paola should share a city but, for now, they will share a blog". I stick to that statement. Now I also post songs at midnight for the community.

Local time in Chicago: 12:00am. This is me coming back from a lovely and warm home screening of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” with beloved Tal Zacarías, Meredith Helena and Yaniv Motek (until we find the right one). After falling madly in love with Audrey Hepburn andGeorge Peppard, we all ended up singing this song.

We can try to have a broad perspective on the career of Deep Blue Something as a band that started in the University of North Texas and was part of the self-proclaimed alternative rock of the nineties. But no. Let’s face it, they will only be remembered for this emblematic one hit wonder that made it in the US, Israel and Colombia, among other places. The song presents a difficult reality: a couple that has no common grounds on which to stand anymore and the desperate cry of the man to find something that can hold them together. And, guess what that thing is? “Remember that film that we both kind of liked? Well. I guess that is one thing we’ve got”. Oh, man. That’s not enough. Rough times. On the other hand, the video is a bit more cheerful. It is not only a flashback to the look of “a particular type of american dudes” in the nineties, but a fun celebration of the Manhattan way of life. Just like in that movie with the gorgeous woman* - http://bit.ly/qn741x”.

Keep it real. Embrace transnational one hit wonders.

”- Paul Baby: Sing Sing? - Holly Baby: Yes. I always thought it was a ridiculous name for a prison. Sing Sing, I mean. Sounds more like it should be an opera house or something”. Well, Mr. Acosta, who is a legend in Colombian music, was well aware that this place was far from being an opera house. He deserves a bafleo of his own and I shall write it one day. Too bad he didn’t make it in Israel like the Legendary Pink Dots.
